A Possible Bias Model for Quasars

چکیده

We propose that the majority of quasars at redshift z ∼ 1 − 5 formed in the environment of new born collapsed halos with 1-D velocity dispersion σ1d v ∼ 400 km s−1. The harboring coefficient f of quasars per halo and the lifetime of quasars depend only on local process, not modulated by the density inhomogeneities on scales larger than the size of the halos. Thus, the bias of quasars on scale larger than the size of these halos is mainly determined by the parameter σv used for quasar environment identification. With this model, the popular structure formation models, like SCDM and LCDM, can be fairly well reconciled with the data of quasars, including a. observed feature of the environment for quasars; b. redshift evolution of quasar abundance; c. the two-point correlation functions of quasars. This bias model predicts that the correlation function of quasars doesn’t significantly evolve, or only slightly increases with redshift. The radio luminosity, black hole mass and Eddington ratio for quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

We investigate the MBH−σ∗ relation for radio-loud quasars with redshift z < 0.83 in Data Release 3 of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The sample consists of 3772 quasars with better model of Hβ and [O III] lines and available radio luminosity, including 306 radio-loud quasars, 3466 radio-quiet quasars with measured radio luminosity or upper-limit of radio luminosity (181 radio-quiet quasar...

A Survey for Large Separation Lensed FIRST Quasars, II. Magnification Bias and Redshift Distribution

The statistics of large-separation gravitational lensing are a powerful tool to probe mass distributions on the scale of galaxy clusters. In this paper we refine the analysis of our survey for large-separation (> 5) lensed FIRST quasars (Ofek et al. 2001) by estimating the magnification bias and the source redshift distribution. Finding no large separation lens among 8000 likely quasars in that...

The Multi-Band Magnification Bias for Gravitational Lenses

We present a generalization of the concept of magnification bias for gravitationally-lensed quasars, in which the quasars are selected by flux in more than one wavelength band. To illustrate the principle, we consider the case of two-band selection, in which the fluxes in the two bands are uncorrelated, perfectly correlated, or correlated with scatter. For uncorrelated fluxes, we show that the ...

The clustering of simulated quasars

We analyze the clustering properties of quasars simulated using a semianalytic model built on the Millennium Simulation, with the goal of testing scenarios in which black hole accretion and quasar activity are triggered by galaxy mergers. When we select quasars with luminosities in the range accessible by current observations, we find that predicted values for the redshift evolution of the quas...

Relations between Galaxy Formation and the Environments of Quasars

We investigate the environments of quasars using a semi-analytic model which includes both galaxy and quasar formations based on a hierarchical clustering scenario. We assume that a supermassive black hole is formed and fueled by the accretion of cold gas during a major merger of galaxies. Our model can reproduce not only the general form of the galaxy luminosity functions in the local Universe...
